High Speed Rail (Crewe – Manchester) Environmental Statement, Glossary, abbreviations and references, published by the Department for Transport in 2022, defines a drainage stilling pond as: ‘A small basin into which water flow is discharged that is used to either dissipate energy or trap solids.’
